EuroFest 2016 Volunteers Needed in German Tent!

Beatrice in 2015Hi everyone!  We are wondering if anyone would like to volunteer to set up the table at the European Festival this year.  The event takes place one weekend on May 28th and 29th (Saturday and Sunday) and we will have one table and 20 minutes of entertainment on the main stage, sponsored by the Black Forest Deli. (www.europeanfestival.ca) in Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC.

Kecia, who is organizing everything, had a bad accident that has kept her home since Christmas.  She will not be able to do much heavy lifting or anything that is too strenuous and would really appreciate some help. Please share with your school, club, organization or charity! Even family/friends.

What exactly do we need help with?

Wine display European Festivala.  Event Decorations Committee – my idea was to have 3 areas highlighted that have to do with German culture: three Mini Displays
-Wine & Beer display
-Soccer display
-Green display (passive house, mercedes full cell battery etc.)

b.  Volunteer Committee – Strong volunteers to help with:
-set up
-clean up
Volunteers to sit in 3-hour shifts in the tent to talk to EuroFest Visitors.

If you have a van/truck, that would be particularly helpful.

c.  Flag Carry Person – hopefully with the German Consul Josef Beck
-carry the flag Saturday around 1 pm (exact details not known at this time) while wearing traditional German clothes

Entertainment:  there will be a lottery run on Monday, April 4th, where all the participating countries will compete for times to sing on Saturday/Sunday. At this point, we are not sure who will be performing on behalf of Germany and what time this will be.

Beer & Bratwurst:  The German Canadian Business Association will be offering a Beer & Bratwurst event at around 5:30 pm on Saturday. Members have to pay for their own entrance fee (unless they volunteer and receive a ticket from Kecia) and have to RSVP, if interested in going.

Torwand + European FestivalFussball:  Apparently Axel will be bringing in his “Soccer Torwand” (with 3 holes to shoot goals), which will go into the children’s area – we could use some volunteers in this area.

IMPORTANT/WICHTIG – it is possible for students 16+ to volunteer on their own, and younger ones to volunteer with their families – this should be a consideration for the German Schools of the Lower Mainland! Most Grade 10 to 12 students need to have at least 30 volunteer hours a year.  We also encourage new young people to get involved, as it is a great way to meet people and to work in a team.
Thank you!  Danke!  Wunderbar!  You are amazing!
