About Irene Schneider

Irene Schneider is an independent choreographer who has created over 60 ballets presented in numerous Opera houses in Germany and throughout the world. After finishing her professional ballet career, primarily with
Stuttgart Ballet, Ms. Schneider began teaching and choreographing. Her career led her to Magdeburg Ballet where she was Artistic Director for fifteen years.

About Coastal City Ballet

Coastal City Ballet is a repertory ballet company, based in Vancouver, that provides performance opportunities for dancers, both Canadian and international. Coastal City Ballet’s repertoire ranges from original story ballets to classical and commissioned contemporary works by established international choreographers.
Since its conception in September 2011, Coastal City Ballet has successfully presented numerous productions to audiences in greater Vancouver and Regina, Saskatchewan. Productions performed include Coastal City Ballet’s
first original story ballet Hansel and Gretel, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Coppelia, Cinderella, Swan Lake, and Giselle as well as the staging of classical excerpts and commissioned world premieres by Wen Wei Wang,
Joshua Beamish, Erica Trivett, Farley Johansson, and Li Yaming, among others.

About Swan Lake

Schneider’s Swan Lake explores the human emotion of a romantic love contrasted against a realistic and practical love of an arranged marriage. The White Swan comes to Siegfried in his dream, embodying the ideal
of true love, while Odile (Black Swan) is presented by the evil Rothbarth as the woman Siegfried is to wed.
Schneider is able to give us a story that is more relatable to modern day while maintaining the tradition and essence of the Swan Lake we all expect to see. Audiences will not be disappointed to experience the classic
second Act with the beautiful swans in unison and the tragic ending of Act 4. The diverse talents of Coastal City Ballet along with the beautiful score of Pytor Tchaikovsky, glorious costumes and imaginative sets brings this
heart wrenching love story to life.
Newly appointed Artistic Director, Katrina Bois, is excited to stage the iconic ballet with its brilliant principal cast in her first season leading the company. “Swan Lake is one of the only ballets that you can see again and
again. Whether it’s your first time or your hundredth, the experience is truly magical,” says Bois. She further believes Schneider’s rendition adds something to the experience. “Schneider’s Swan Lake was designed to be
seen over and over again because you find little details in it each time that make it exciting and fresh,” says Bois. “The story itself is magical as it is but with the addition of Schneider’s subtle yet realistic plot twists
you’ll discover something new every year.” Choreographer Irene Schneider returns to Vancouver to continue her partnership with Coastal City Ballet. “A long friendship has kept me in touch with Li Yaming, founder of
Coastal City Ballet, and Katrina Bois. Coming back to Coastal City Ballet to remount Swan Lake is like coming home,” says Schneider.
Coastal City Ballet’s production of Swan Lake features a professional principal cast with close connections to the company. Dancing the title roles are Ana Paula Oioli, former dancer with Thueringen Ballett and current
Company Director, as Odette; Yoko Kanomata, former dancer with Atlanta Ballet and current company member, as Odile; Diego Ramalho, current dancer with Ballet Edmonton and former company member, as Siegfried;
Kostyantyn Keshyshev, former soloist with Royal Winnipeg Ballet and current Ballet Master, as Rothbarth; and Marcio Teixeira, current dancer with Ballet Jorgen and current company member, as Benno.

My Name is Joe Rehbach. I was born and raised in Köln, Germany, I moved to Vancouver with my parents in 2008. I’m Fluent in both English and German, with some experience when we moved to Canada.

Buying your first vehicle here is tough, I want to help with that. I work at Coastal Ford Burnaby (5750 Laugheed Highway Burnaby, BC) , we have a large variety of new and used vehicles, I hope that I can help some people find their first car in Canada with the help of me speaking German!

Some of my experience listed here:

  • As a detailer, I made sure every vehicle was spotless. It was a fast paced environment, and I worked as a team with my coworkers to ensure that customers were satisfied.
  • Specializing in used vehicles, my days consisted of working closely with service advisors, shop managers, detailers, body shops and wheel specialists to ensure the fast process of reconditioning.
  • I also routinely organized my showroom space in a clean and effective manner. Communicating with customers and answering any questions that they may have was also an important aspect of this job.
  • Working as a sales associate involved answering customers’ questions about products, suggesting products that fit their needs, and assisting coworkers in other departments when needed.
  • While going to school back home in Germany, I had the pleasure to work alongside my brother, learning the ins and outs of the automotive industry.

The score of the 1922 silent film re-imagined by Juno winner Andrew Downing, performed by the Vancouver Bach Choir

Nosferatu, the classic 1922 silent film, is set to get an auditory makeover this spring as the Vancouver Bach Choir will perform the world-premiere of a new score by Andrew Downing. Audiences will have the unique opportunity to watch the film projected on stage at the Orpheum, while the brand new soundtrack is performed live by the choir and a small ensemble, conducted by Leslie Dala.

Nosferatu

Experience Nosferatu in the historic Orpheum theatre projected in newly re-mastered clarity. Canadian composer Andrew Downing’s new score is brought to life by the Vancouver Bach Choir and a band of the best local classical and jazz musicians. After bringing to life the Phantom of the Opera in Vancouver Bach Choir’s 2015/16 season, Mr. Downing returns with a new vision for this seminal work of classic film. Based in Toronto, Mr. Downing’s vibrant scores bridge the genres of jazz and classical and the presentation of live scores for classic films is a particular passion of his.

With some of the most iconic cinematic imagery ever, Nosferatu tells the story of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, here known as Count Orlof. This influential masterpiece features themes of darkness, shadows and light. It remains relevant to today’s contemporary audiences just as much as those who originally saw it in 1922.

Vancouver choral enthusiasts, film-buffs and horror-movie-enthusiasts alike will be captivated by this special, one-night-only film and choral event.

About the Vancouver Bach Choir: The Vancouver Bach Choir (VBC), celebrating its 88th season, is an award-winning symphonic choir committed to offering vibrant and culturally diverse choral experiences to its audiences.

As one of the largest choral organizations in Canada, the Vancouver Bach Choir explores a wide range of repertoire from the past to the present with passion and commitment. With eight choirs ranging in age from 5 to 80, the VBC continues to pursue choral excellence at all levels and presents numerous concerts each year through the metro Vancouver region.

Over the past eight decades, the choir has performed with numerous world-class musicians. Currently under the baton of Maestro Leslie Dala, the VBC continues its mission and tradition to share the beauty of new and traditional choral music with as wide an audience as possible.

Join the new Business Directory

Just before Christmas, I set up a new Business Directory, so that I could have a convenient list of German-related businesses in Western Canada in one place. There are 26 categories at the moment, and each category allows one featured listing and an unlimited amount of regular listings.

Then I decided to start a new venture – an European News Platform – that would allow me to expand to also list French, Italian, Hungarian, Polish, Dutch or Spanish businesses that are hoping to expand in Western Canada and would like to use a niche market to promote themselves. www.europeannews.ca

Be one of the first to join this listing in order to gain the benefits promoting yourself through a niche platform like this one

Finally, I also set up a store to sell the business directory listings, and other products and services I am offering on the European News Platform. This will allow anyone with Internet access and a credit card to easily pay for and sign up to the Business Directory in order to get:

  • inexpensive advertising
  • brand building
  • incoming links to help improve SEO
  • Get discovered more often online
  • easy access to additional promotional opportunities like our calendar, the elkepr YouTube Channel, the European News Magazine etc.

If you want to get a listing, just look at the picture above, to discover the “five easy steps to join the European News Business Directory”.

If you have any questions, just call Elke at 604 828 8788. Once we have 25 listings, the annual fees will be raised to $50, so hurry and get your listing today! http://www.europeannews.ca/business-directory/

Thank you to all of those who are considering joining this directory and supporting the European News Platform. We appreciate you!
