(I am NOT the employer myself)

Currently, we are looking for Language Quality Assurance Reviewers for various languages (Thai, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Traditional Chinese, French (France), Italian, Thai, Czech, Portuguese Brazilian and more…)

At Globalme, the Language Quality Assurance Reviewer is the guard of quality translations. You will need to review localized products such as websites, mobile applications, games, training etc. and ensure that these products are ready to be released to target markets. Some products will also require light functional testing. In addition to functional and linguistic reviews, a Quality Assurance Reviewer creates style guides and provides linguistic input as needed.

This is a project based, on call, part time position that can turn into a full time for the right candidates.

A language Quality Assurance Reviewer:

Is a native speaker of a target language, with higher education completed in their country.
Has excellent language skills (both in their own language and in English).
Pays close attention to detail – this is a must.
Is able to read and follow complex instructions.
Has a curious personality – you will need to investigate things, search on the Internet in ways that you have probably never searched before. Simply, you need a curious personality.
Needs to feel comfortable using computers (not only email, Facebook, and the internet). You will need to install/uninstall programs and find your way around.
Considers themselves as a tech savvy person.
Has an up to date computer with stable internet connection.

An ideal candidate is also:

Clever and fast — you understand things quickly and are not confused about simple things.
Computer savvy — you consider yourself as a technical person and get excited about new technologies, applications etc.
Driven — you’re not someone who needs to be micromanaged and you don’t wait around for problems or quality concerns to hit others’ radars before brainstorming a fix.
Problem solver — you figure out problems that rarely have textbook solutions. “Let me figure this out” is a sentence you use often.
Open to receiving feedback — you focus on solutions and improvements rather than finding excuses why something doesn’t work.
Positive — you have a “nothing is impossible attitude”. You believe that everything can be done.
Self-starter — you see a clear link between your actions and their outcomes. You don’t sit around and wait for others to tell you what to do.
Resourceful — you have a head with plenty of good ideas.
Eligible to work in Canada for at least 10 months from the application time.
Background in linguistics is preferred.
This is a project based, on call position where many projects can be done from home.
Compensation: Depending on experience, starting at $20 per hour

Languages we’re looking for:

Spanish (Spain and Latin America)
Traditional Chinese

Von Denis Hercog:

Liebe deutschsprachige Community in Vancouver,

NOVEMBER 1, 2017 – CALGARY, AB Canada will once again become the focus of the international ski jumping community when three major competitions will be held early December at Whistler Olympic Park.

From December 7-10, 2017, Whistler will host a Men’s Continental Cup as well as a Men’s FIS Cup and a Women’s FIS Cup.

“This will be the biggest international ski jumping competition in Canada since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver,” says Tom Reid, president of Ski Jumping Canada. “We expect up to 15 nations to participate, bringing nearly 100 of the best young male and female ski jumpers in the world. It’s going to be tremendously exciting.” </P

Canadian participation in the events will be a factor in securing quota spots for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeonchang, Korea. “As we head into the home stretch towards Korea, it’s vital that we give our athletes every opportunity to qualify for the Games,” says Reid.

“Athletes require FIS Cup points before they can compete at the Continental Cup level. In order to qualify for the World Cup circuit, athletes must have at least one Continental Cup point,” adds Reid. “Because our Canadian athletes train so often in Whistler, they’re very familiar with the hill. This could give them the edge they need to jump well and obtain those extremely valuable points.”

The Continental Cup and FIS Cup events will utilize the legacy facilities from the 2010 Vancouver games, including the ski jumps at Whistler Olympic Park and the athletes’ village. The competitions are being partially funded by a Sport Canada hosting grant.

“This is all part of a long-term effort to return World Cup competition to Canada,” adds Reid. “Our next goal is to host a Women’s World Cup at Whistler within the next year or two. Ensuring these events run smoothly will help put Canada back on the map with FIS and serve to leverage a growing interest in ski jumping in BC and Alberta. We’ve got some terrific young talent in Canada, but we can only benefit from more kids becoming involved.”

I would just like to say a big “Thank You” and “Danke Schön” to all my advertisers for the latest issue of “Das Schwarze Brett – Christmas Edition”.  It can be found here:

I promised them all a mention in a blog post and here they are.

First of all, I would like to thank my first two advertisers, which are Hannelore Nolte with Nolte Log Homes Ltd. and Beatrice Schreiber with the Bel Art Gallery Inc.

Bel Art Gallery Inc.Bel Art Gallery Inc. would like to welcome you to the World of Fine Arts. Available for you is an excellent collection of originals, limited edition prints and sculptures from fine local and internationally acclaimed artists.

Then, I am happy to say thank you to these prestigious German brands as seen below: PMA Canada and Leicht Kitchens…
Underberg @ PMA CanadaSince its formation, PMA has become Canada’s leading Wine & Spirits Agency. We attribute this success to our supplier partnerships and dedicated team who are able to adapt to this rapidly changing industry to build brands for the long term. Some of the world’s premium spirits and wine brands we represent include Grant’s Whiskey, Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch, Gibson’s Finest Canadian Whiskey, Two Oceans Wines, Amurula Cream Liquer, Jägermeister, Disaronno & Underberg.

Leicht KitchensGermanhaus is an authorized dealer of LEICHT Küchen AG, quoted by market research institute GfK as the “Best sold premium brand in Germany” in 2015. The same year it was the only manufacturer of European kitchens that won the award “the most innovative brand of the year”. LEICHT was founded by the two brothers, Alois and Josef Leicht in 1928. Luckily LEICHT means EASY in German. LEICHT allows our customers to choose from more door finishes and styles, cabinet hardware, LED lighting options, and inserts than any other European manufacturer.

Here are some Canadians, where Dawna Mueller with Dawna Mueller Photography was the talent behind the front cover.  Kendyra Corttni, who is a passionate vegan and loves travelling to Germany, is now offering consulting services to Canadians who want to explore a new nutritional lifestyle.

Dawna Mueller Photography I am a Canadian living in Switzerland who is passionate about nature, mountains and adventure. I grew up in Burnaby, BC, but as a young adult I spent every summer for over a decade in the Yukon, which is wild and raw, and amazing for the visual senses. This experience in the pristine nature left an indelible impression in my mind. An impression of nature, mountains and rovers relatively uninhabited except for the wild animals who roam them. But mostly this left an imprint in my heart and it is where I now feel most at home; in the mountains and in nature. Photography has been my hobby since I had my first camera as an adolescent. My earliest memories were experimenting with my mother’s Brownie Box Camera when I was a child. At this point in my life, I have taken my passion for photography, combined with my love of nature and the outdoors and turned it into a full time exciting adventure. As of June 2016, I have finished a one year professional photography studies program with CAP Fotoschule in Zurich. I am excited to see what the future holds.

I am thrilled to share my visions and work and hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them.

All of my images are available for purchase.

Vegan Values AdA healthy vegan diet is comprised of 100% plant based, mostly non-processed foods, that can make people and cats thrive.

Let me save you time and money by designing a custom made eating plan to suit your individual needs. See my Blog article: ‘Why hire a Vegan Consultant?’

Sometimes people contact me out of the blue.  One of them is Erwin Baumgartner from Switzerland who loves to travel to BC & Alberta and George Hartmetz from Kelowna who is looking for a companion who knows how to cook.

Do you speak 4 languages and like to travel?  Then you may want to contact this man who is organizing travel adventures for Europeans in Canada.

Finally, last, but not least, if you have ever wanted to move to Kelowna and you love to cook, here is your chance for a fresh start in a beautiful city in BC. George is looking for someone to live in and who will spend time as a companion.

The Whitecaps were not advertisers, but they did let me interview their new goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic who played in Germany for a number of years and was originally from New Zealand.  Read all about him in “Das Schwarze Brett”, found on (type Das Schwarze Brett” into the search bar).

Sold out at festivals worldwide since 2011, 5-Step Guide to Being German is award-winning German comedian Paco Erhard’s comical mission to set the record straight about his “charming, crazy mishap of a country”. In 2017, 5-Step Guide to Being German finally comes to Vancouver.

Written as a response to British people’s stereotypes about Germany, 5-Step Guide to Being German delivers “an extremely clever analysis of the modern German psyche” (Independent Daily, AUS) that is “side-splittingly funny and violently politically incorrect” (The Argus, UK). The show was nominated for the Fringe World Best Comedy Award in 2013.

Paco Erhard shows us the Germany behind the scenes, as he self-ironially deals with topics as varied as German bluntness (“we’re not rude, we just value honesty more highly than other people’s feelings”), hilarious Autobahn dilemmas, the truth about lederhosen, and how it feels to grow up with Germany’s horrible past.

Born in Munich as the great-grandson of a high-up German politician (a non-Nazi one, relax!), Paco hitchhiked out of Germany in 2002 to see the world and experience other cultures. “Half my life I ran away from being German” he says. “Then I realized: that’s the most German thing you could possibly do.”

Since then, he has toured the globe as a stand-up comedian, performing in English, German and Spanish. He has written on Germany and Europe for the Irish Times, authored an award-winning academic paper on cultural identity, and appeared on BBC One and many other international TV & radio stations, as a comedian and expert.

If you want to understand Germany and your German friends and family better, see this show.

You will laugh. If you want. Zis is not an order.

“Hilarious… one of the best cultural comedians in the world”

– Rip It Up (AUS)

“A true master of his craft. It’s difficult to overstate how hilarious Erhard’s act is”

– Edinburgh Guide (UK)

“Insightful and hysterical… A thought-provoking, incredibly witty show”

– Broadway Baby

“”had the audience not just laughing but howling…

there is a layer of truth just beneath the humour… genius” – Calgary Herald

Can you Help Find Hildegard Gale?

This is a message sent to “Germans in Vancouver” by Tomas Nehls,

Avenue in Vancouver.

German Community Invited to Cityride

Hello to the German Community,

I wanted to pass along an event that I along with Charmaine Crooks am putting on that is called Our Cityride. If you feel that the German community may be interested in taking part please pass along the event details. I ask because we are working closely with the Dutch Consulate for their initiative in the International Ride and we are welcoming like minded nations to join them.

The 17km ride is an all inclusive non competitive ride that will go through all the iconic spots of downtown Vancouver that begins at 5pm from David Lam Park. The family friendly festival will be open between 3-9pm and will have a signature band play, an open beer garden, kids zone, Expo, Food Trucks and free bike Valet.

There will also be some really cool prizes awarded, such as complimentary flights from Vancouver to Amsterdam curtesy of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a Norco Bike and tickets to future Canucks & White Caps Games.

Only $20 for adults and U18 are free. More information can be found at This is a not for profit event run under our 365 International Sport Foundation, held on August 19th, 207.

If you need any other info let me know. Thanks in advance for anyone you could circulate this to in the German community.

Kind Regards,
