The score of the 1922 silent film re-imagined by Juno winner Andrew Downing, performed by the Vancouver Bach Choir

Nosferatu, the classic 1922 silent film, is set to get an auditory makeover this spring as the Vancouver Bach Choir will perform the world-premiere of a new score by Andrew Downing. Audiences will have the unique opportunity to watch the film projected on stage at the Orpheum, while the brand new soundtrack is performed live by the choir and a small ensemble, conducted by Leslie Dala.

Nosferatu

Experience Nosferatu in the historic Orpheum theatre projected in newly re-mastered clarity. Canadian composer Andrew Downing’s new score is brought to life by the Vancouver Bach Choir and a band of the best local classical and jazz musicians. After bringing to life the Phantom of the Opera in Vancouver Bach Choir’s 2015/16 season, Mr. Downing returns with a new vision for this seminal work of classic film. Based in Toronto, Mr. Downing’s vibrant scores bridge the genres of jazz and classical and the presentation of live scores for classic films is a particular passion of his.

With some of the most iconic cinematic imagery ever, Nosferatu tells the story of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, here known as Count Orlof. This influential masterpiece features themes of darkness, shadows and light. It remains relevant to today’s contemporary audiences just as much as those who originally saw it in 1922.

Vancouver choral enthusiasts, film-buffs and horror-movie-enthusiasts alike will be captivated by this special, one-night-only film and choral event.
