About Westcoast German News
This blog started out as a newsletter named “German Voices Vancouver” in 2007. Before that, Elke attempted to found a nanny agency called “European InHome Services”. It never really got off the ground, but it did introduce her to a wide variety of people that had her thinking how cool it would be go connect the German Community on the west coast with a newsletter. A year later in 2008, the name was changed to “Westcoast German News”. Porter published the newsletter monthly and started a blog. Finally, she published a digital magazine under the name “Westcoast German News” in 2013, then das “Schwarze Brett” in 2014 and European News Magazine in 2015. None of these magzines were profitable, but ever since then, she has been blogging. Now Elke regularly publishes events, stories and articles/press releases about Austrians, Germans & Swiss on this blog. Still happy to find contributors, readers, advertisers, sponsors & columnists from the local community!
