GCBA Farewell Party for Consul General Dr. Klaus Schmidt

The Crowd May 5th

Vancouver, May 5, 2022 – Leicht Kitchens in the Germanhaus in the heart of Kitsilano was the scene of a touching farewell for The Consul General of Germany Dr. Klaus Schmidt where 76 members and friends of the German Canadian Business Association gathered to say good-bye. Although it was a rainy Thursday night, the guests were still excited by the Ukrainian food, the German wine & beer and the beautiful painting provided by Bel Art Gallery to raise funds for a charity https://razomforukraine.org, while listening to live classical & jazz music beautifully played by representatives of Tom Lee. The venue was sponsored by Leicht Kitchens, who also sponsored some of the food. Brian Jessel BMW was also involved, sponsoring some of the food, the event photographer and decorations, such as the two beautiful BMW’s parked out front. Thank you to all sponsors!

Food was provided by Kozak Ukranian Restaurant. Maxim Gotsutsov & Dmitry Bogouslavsky (middle photo) are the co-owners of Leicht Kitchens. The German beer and German wine was donated by the Consul General.

If you missed the event and didn’t have a chance to try the delicious food on May 5th, you can still taste similar dishes at the Kozak Restaurant that is located in the former “Bauhaus” Restaurant at 1 West Cordova Street. Find out more by visiting https://www.kozakeatery.ca/

Bel Art Gallery, owned by Stefan and Beatrice Schreiber, donated a beautiful ballerina-based artwork by Mexican-Canadian Artist Richard Alan Kent that raised $1168.36 towards charity!

In the picture below (right), you can see Mir Huculak Honorary Consul General Of Ukraine standing between Claudia, membership director and Beatrice Schreiber, President.

The flags made a suitable backdrop for the photo corner and guests had a lot of fun taking pictures.

For some people, this was the first event they had attended since the pandemic and they were so happy to be serenaded by both the Steinway grand piano and saxophone, while enjoying refreshing wine and beer.

We finally held the raffle to see who won the prize, and it was won by Chris Przeworski – GSM at South Fraser Broadcasting – standing next to Beatrice Schreiber in the middle picture.

Speeches were held by Beatrice Schreiber, President of the German Canadian Business Association, Abdel Karim Awwad from Brian Jessel BMW, Maxim Gotsutsov from Leicht Kitchens and finally, from the Consul General Dr. Klaus Schmidt who received a beautiful BC-focused painting by German artist living on the Sunshine Coast, Gerhilde Stulken, to take with him back to Germany.

The Deputy Consul Hans Stocker also made an appearance, as can be seen in the photo on the right. He is standing to the left of Claudia, Dr. Schmidt and Beatrice.

Although the event was officially ended at 8 pm, people were still enjoying themselves and didn’t want to leave. The next event organized by the German Canadian Business Association will be a dinner meeting held at Van Dusen Gardens some time in June.
