Burnaby, June 14, 2022 – Last week, Beatrice Schreiber received an invitation from BCIT from Eva Wong, International Programs Coordinator, BCIT Business + Media, standing in the middle picture next to Mark Chiarello, Associate Director, Global Relations at BCIT. On either side is Lester de Guzman, Marketing Supervisor, BCIT Business + Media.
Beatrice Schreiber, President of the German Canadian Business Association, had a prior commitment and couldn’t make it, so she requested that someone from the Board attend in her place. As I had time, I was happy to volunteer to learn more about the “Future of Business”.

The invitation read: “Join us Tuesday, June 14th from 6:00-8:30 pm for a lively evening of inspiration, insight, and conversation about the future of business. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, beer, and wine, and connect with fellow professionals during our networking reception, before engaging in a facilitated panel discussion. The evening will bring together a diverse view of speakers from the business community in areas of business analytics, sustainability, and leadership.”

Keynote Speaker:
Brianna Brown, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Decade Impact, did an amazing job sharing her many ways of charting the many different paths to the future or futures.

Besides the pandemic, the last two years have brought us challenging times dealing with racial justice uprisings, urgent calls for reconciliation, economic uncertainty, civil unrest and rising inequality, democratic backsliding, the great resignation and a climate emergency. How can we get to a better future using our businesses to advance our purpose/mission. Brianna did a great job of engaging the audience in a positive, helpful manner.

About Decade:

Panelists:
Yogesh Bansal, Associate Digital Marketer, AlgaeCal Inc.
Brianna Brown, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Decade Impact
Jackie Li, Faculty, British Columbia Institute of Technology
Ivy Wan, Faculty, British Columbia Institute of Technology
The moderator, standing to the left of me was Chantel Tsvetu, who is a BCIT journalism alum; an ambivert and global citizen in the making. She did an excellent job keeping things running smoothly.

Hosted by BCIT School of Business + Media, the event was complimentary and in-person, and for some people this was the first time since the pandemic started. Everyone seemed very happy to be there.
