Fan and Singer Favourite of Mozart’s Requiem in d minor & VBC premiere of Britten’s St. Nicolas Launch the Bach Choir’s 91st Season this Fall

Vancouver, BC:

The Vancouver Bach Choir is thrilled to be returning to in person concerts this fall! Our 91st season is shaping up to be a triumphant one and we are eager to share it in person with audiences.

The Vancouver Bach Choir first returns to the stage on October 23 with a perennial favourite, Mozart’s Requiem in d minor. A masterpiece cloaked in mystery, the work is beloved for its mesmerizing, captivating and emotionally stirring qualities.

“Mozart’s Requiem is a work of such power and transcendent beauty. Given all of the events of the past 18 months across the globe and here at home, we felt that this was the ideal piece to launch this season. We look forward to making music together in person and to sharing this incredible masterpiece which we hope will give consolation and renewed hope to our listeners.” – Leslie Dala, VBC Music Director

Under the baton of Leslie Dala, the Vancouver Bach Choir will be joined by local soloists Robyn Driedger-Klassen, soprano, Katie Fernandez, mezzo-soprano, Scott Rumble, Tenor, and Neil Craighead, bass.

Later this fall, the VBC will return to the Orpheum stage with its premiere of Benjamin Britten’s festive cantata St. Nicolas. For the first time in our 91 year history, the Vancouver Bach Choir and Children’s Choirs will charm audiences with a festive musical celebration of one of the world’s most adored saints. A genuine and heartfelt piece aimed at connecting with young people, the St. Nicolas cantata is scored for multiple choirs, piano duet, organ, strings, percussion, and tenor soloist. The VBC is delighted to be joined by tenor Asitha Tenekoon for this joyful, colourful, cheery and dramatic piece, which is so appropriate for the festive season, and the perfect piece to showcase the talents of the VBC’s multi-generational choir.

Tickets to both concerts are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.vancouverbachchoir.com. There patrons can also find details on the measures being taken into consideration to ensure the health and safety of our audiences and singers.
